Senior Exhibit Production Coordinator

Oversees the cost effective, timely load-in, installation, strike and load out of Traveling Exhibits. Responsible for ensuring that proper techniques, safety procedures, policies and protocols are adhered to by Museum, contract, and onsite lender's staff working in the exhibit. Solves problems related to the execution of installations, such as building schedules, design changes, equipment needs, and labor amounts and schedules. Assists in maintenance issues in traveling exhibits with internal maintenance staff and technicians from the originating museums. Maintain department equipment and supplies, and works with others to maintain and utilize leased warehouse space. Oversees the installation team of up to 20 people depending on the scope of the project. Is the primary forklift operator on site.


  • 3-9 exhibits per year of 2,000 - 20,000 sq. ft. in size with 10-50 components
  • Coordinates 9-14 53' trucks delivering and picking up within the same 1-week period
  • Oversees an installation team of 2-20 depending on scope of project, average of 8 per exhibit
  • Oversees up to 2 or 3 installations ongoing at the same time in separate galleries
  • Assist when needed on exhibit tours 1-2 exhibits simultaneously changing at the same time at other museums as the 1-3 exhibits are changing in Boston
  • Travels approximately 1 to 2 times per year, trips may require as much time as 3 weeks in length
  • Oversees equipment budget of $5,000-$100,000 per exhibit project
  • Oversees the installation of tricky traveling display pieces such as airplanes, spacecraft, cars, hovercrafts, artifacts, stone objects, heavy objects, etc. Up to 50 pieces at a time
  • Able to start work as early as 4:00am and work as late as 12:01am


This position is full-time, 40 hours/week. It may require evening and weekends.


Manager, Temporary Exhibit Operations


  • Post high school course work, technical degree, associate's degree, business or vocational certificate
  • 3 or more years of technical experience in theater, events, live entertainment production, or conventions experience
  • Ability to obtain Massachusetts Hoisting license and operate forklift on all incoming/outgoing exhibits
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have experience using both power and hand tools
  • Must have experience in crew management
  • Must be able to travel for up to three weeks at a time once or twice a year


Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
