Program Manager, Current Science & Technology and Live Presentations

The Program Manager of Current Science and Technology and Live Presentations is both a master educator and program manager who will teach and oversee all the educational programs that are delivered on all stages at the Museum of Science. This person will set educational directions for the Museum through the development of new methods of STEM education for the diverse audiences the Museum currently serves. This person will be responsible for supervising the development and staffing of programs, collaboration with other departments, prepare a weekly schedule for staff and overall communication and dissemination of information to all those within the Museum. Manage a budget and overall maintenance of educational equipment and when necessary repair demonstrations, theaters and stages as needed.


  • Assist in the hiring process, supervise and oversee training of 6-8 full time educators and 6 – 8 program presenters in the live presentations and current science and technology departments.
  • Create and communicate the overall daily schedule of programs to deliver 8 - 12 presentations on average and communicate live programming to museum audiences and staff.
  • Work one weekend day and some holiday work required and adjustment of schedule for summer hours as needed to support the educational team.
  • Presentations given: 4 per week on average and learn 1-3 programs per year
  • Work on cross departmental teams 2 – 3 per year to create new programs or efficiencies in educational program delivery.
  • Create 2-4 new programs with educational team per year to teach in multiple venues.
  • Create and support management of budgets of over $650,000 for both departments.
  • Stages, theaters and 2 – 3 classrooms maintained including: TOE, Cahners theater, CS&T, Shapiro Science Live Stage, Hornblower Room, Classroom A and TLC.


This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, from Sunday – Thursday, including holiday work and adjustment of schedule for summer hours as needed to support the education team.


Manager of School, Youth and Public (Live Presentations and Current Science and Technology) Programs


  • Bachelor of Science or Arts and additional course work preferred.
  • Five (5) years or more of science education experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects in a high activity environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, provide constructive feedback.
  • Comfort using basic information technology and multi media technology.
  • Demonstrated communication skills (written and verbal) and understanding of science education pedagogy.
  • Experience in delivering STEM education programming in an informal educational setting audiences sizes of 25 – 350.
  • Supervisor and leadership experience .
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and train new and experienced educators.
  • Demonstrated ability to support fabrications and troubleshooting and/or repairs on educational equipment.


Exempt (Salaried). Commensurate with experience.
