SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Advancement, and working closely with senior Division leaders, the Senior Director of Advancement Operations (SDAO) will guide an already-successful fundraising operation through a period of evolution, utilizing continuous quality improvement built on client feedback and deploying business tools and resources to serve the needs of strategic partners. They will lead a team of staff, manage a departmental operating budget of $6 million, and work cross-functionally with the department's senior management team to define, scope, analyze, and resolve strategic business challenges while providing leadership to key operating units and playing an active role in achieving the department's ambitious fundraising goals on behalf of the Museum of Science (MoS).

As a member of the Advancement division's senior management team and select high-level Museum committees, the Senior Director will play a key role in achieving fundraising goals, managing high-level internal and external relationships, improving division efficiencies, and growing a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization and its constituencies.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversight of six teams encompassing 15+ staff.
  • Direct management of six reports (all of whom are directors or managers).
  • Oversight of the Annual Giving business unit responsible for raising $2.5M+ in FY'18 growing annually.
  • Oversight of a $6M divisional operating budget.
  • Responsibility for driving the annual operating plan planning process for 11 business and service units involving 40+ staff and $26M in annual revenue coordination, growing annually.
  • Oversight of the processing more than 50,000 household memberships annually.


WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.


REPORTS TO:

Senior Vice President of Advancement.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or higher.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the following areas:
    • Finance, planning, and/or accounting in a fundraising environment.
    • Fundraising technology/information systems.
    • Managing as part of a fundraising team.
    • Operations and administration oversight in a fundraising context.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in a similar environment, and demonstrated high energy.
  • Strategic planning, business management, organizational development, and organization building skills must be evident.
  • Management skills to motivate, direct, and evaluate staff and volunteers to accomplish fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills to prepare and edit effective correspondence, business plans, proposals, and creative solicitation materials; demonstrated oral communication skills to make persuasive presentations to individuals and groups.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with organizational leadership, staff, donors, prospects and volunteers. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and working relationships with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and perform under pressure of fast-paced office environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in CRM system management and the integration and use of related software programs in support of gift and membership processing, constituent record keeping, and prospect management.


STARTING SALARY:

Exempt (Salaried). Commensurate with experience.
