SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Public Relations Fellow is a valued member of the Public Relations team, helping to maintain the Museum's public reputation as a trusted community partner and valued science resource. The Fellow will assist with enhancing the visibility of our brand, and promoting various museum initiatives such as the museum's exhibits, activities and events, and assist with building relationships with press and community. The Public Relations Fellow reports to the Director, Public Relations and will also work across departments on a variety of projects.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write between 5-8 story clips for monthly press newsletter.
  • Monitor all incoming inquiries via the press@mos.org email and respond to 5-10 inquiries per week.
  • Draft copy/replies for up to 3-5 social media posts per month as identified by PR Director.
  • Participate in cross-divisional planning activities to support promotion of Museum offerings, supporting the PR department as needed.
  • Assist with up to 5 media visits and Museum filmings per month.
  • Develop and maintain media lists for targeted outreach to various audiences.
  • Build and maintain a Collateral library for Public Relations team
  • Stay abreast Museum-related news and alert team of relevant topics that the Museum could contribute 3-5 actions per month


WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is grant-funded, part-time, 20 hours/week between Monday - Friday, lasting for 1 year.

Director, Public Relations


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Identify as an individual with a chronic mental health condition / illness (Information regarding any medical condition will be kept confidential in accordance with the law and will be used solely in connection with the Museum's affirmative action efforts.)
  • Post high school course work, technical degree, associate's degree, business or vocational certificate.
  • 1 or more years of marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, writing experience.
  • Proven verbal and written communications skills.
  • Previous experience writing for a commercial brand or in a professional setting.
  • Ability to interact with consumers online and in person.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to maintain project schedules
  • Demonstrated people skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and be extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly). $18.25 / hr

VACCINATION POLICY:

Staff, interns, and volunteers will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. The Museum will consider an exemption from the vaccine requirement if they are unable to get vaccinated due to a qualifying medical disability or a sincerely held religious objection. The Museum is not required to provide an accommodation or exemption from the vaccine requirement if doing so would pose a direct threat to others in the workplace or would create an undue hardship for the Museum.
