SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Senior Government Relations Officer will champion the Museum's Federal, state, and local government relations program, including grants, earmarks, and other sources of revenue, as well as any relationship building, advocacy, and lobbying efforts in support of the Museum and its exhibits, programs, and curricula. They will Serves as a key representative of the Museum at legislative sessions and before state bodies and Federal agencies in support of institutional goals and objectives. The position will establish and maintain constructive relationships with multiple departments across the Museum in all stages of the government grant cycle, including researching potential grant opportunities; drafting, writing, refining, and submitting Federal, state, and local government grant proposals; and stewarding government donors. The Senior Government Relations Officer is responsible for securing $2 M+ per year in government grants to support a wide array of initiatives working with stakeholders from across the Museum to create compelling proposals for program, exhibit, curricula, and capital funding needs. The position will also implement state and local advocacy efforts to fund EiE and MOS at School outside of Massachusetts.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Raise $2+ million per year from government sources, pending budget allocations and funding levels.
  • Identify opportunities, write, and edit full competitive government grant proposals, roughly 10+ proposals for a variety of Museum programs, exhibits, and curricula annually.
  • Administer the Museum's Federal, state, and local government relations, including grants, earmarks, and other sources of revenue as well as any relationship building, advocacy, and lobbying efforts by developing 5+ proposals annually.
  • Advocate in support of the Museum and its exhibits, programs, and curricula by meeting with up to 20 or more Federal, state, and local government officials and staff. Schedule and prepare materials and provide follow up for these meetings.
  • Write and edit materials for state and local government advocacy efforts to fund EiE and MOS at School outside of Massachusetts, roughly 6+ proposals annually.
  • Execute high-level stewardship for 5+ selected Museum government donors.


WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday.


REPORTS TO:

Director, Government Relations


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts degree.
  • 3 or more years of government relations experience.
  • Demonstrated experience writing government grants or experience in building relationships, advocacy, and lobbying efforts with government officials
  • Proficient understanding of Federal, state, and local legislative and executive process, including budget and appropriations processes, all timelines, and procedural rules
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with all levels of management, board of directors, and staff, as well as government officials and external groups
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work consistently towards key submission dates
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to ethically form and maintain relationships with government officials and entities; and ability to maintain respectful and appropriate professional demeanor at all times


STARTING SALARY:

Exempt (Salaried). $80,000-$85,000/year.
