The Senior Research / Evaluation Associate leads research and evaluation studies and projects and works to secure funding for project ideas. As a part of this work, the individual generates project ideas and plans with Museum and outside partners, implements the projects by overseeing and participating in data collection and instrument creation, data analysis, and reporting. This individual also works to ensure that the project work conducted is on-time, on-budget, and aligns with the Museum's goals, under the direction of the Manager of COVES and Learning Metrics. Finally, the Senior Research / Evaluation Associate serves as a resource for the institution in making data-informed decisions by sharing study findings and theoretical knowledge.


  • Lead the work of 4-8 research/evaluation projects (except when they are very large).
  • Oversee/write 1-3 research or evaluation grant proposals each year.
  • Work on the development of 3-5 research or evaluation plans each year.
  • Present 1-5 conference presentations each year.
  • Write 3-5 published articles or project reports each year.


Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, with occasional weekends and evenings as needed


Director, Research & Evaluation


  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree. Master's degree or higher preferred.
  • Four (4) or more years of educational and/or social science research and evaluation experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research designs and methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the field of informal science learning or education fields.
  • Ability to develop research and evaluation plans that withstand peer review and/or garner acceptance through a grant review process.
  • Ability to create written and verbal reports that withstand peer review and are included in industry and academic journals and conferences.
  • Experience in training and mentoring staff in research and evaluation methods.
  • Experience working with IRBs and developing protocols that meet IRB approval.


Exempt (Salaried). $51,000 - $56,000
