Exhibit Graphic Designer

Museum of Science, Boston


Designs the graphics for permanent, temporary, and digital interactives according to the goals of the project, while working closely with the Graphic Design Supervisor to ensure a unified vision that meets the needs of our broad visitor audience, in an accessible, usable and attractive way. Working on large and small exhibit project teams to create designs and redesigns in response to prototyping and universal design reviews, participating in the editing and proofreading process, collaborating with the 3d design, production teams, and external printers to enable graphics to be produced on time and on budget.


  • Annually, design and production work for:
    • 1-3 major temporary/traveling exhibits, with Graphic Budgets ranging from $5000-$80,000
    • Designing and Producing graphics on 2-4 large permanent exhibits with graphic budgets ranging from $5,000-$80,000
    • Designing and Producing graphics on 50-100 small permanent or temporary exhibits, graphic refurbishment jobs, other department work orders, miscellaneous signage jobs with Graphic Budgets ranging from $50-$10,000
    • Participate in creative development of exhibits.
    • Continuing relationships with up to 4 external vendors or external design/fabrication partners


This position is grant funded, full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday.


Sr. Director, Exhibits


  • You must submit a portfolio to be considered for this opportunity
  • Post high school course work, technical degree, associate's degree, business or vocational certificate
  • 3 or more years of graphic design or visual communications or industrial design experience
  • Up to date knowledge of Macintosh based design software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Graphic design and layout skills
  • Photo editing skills
  • Basic illustration skills
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills


Non-Exempt (Hourly). $23.00-$25.00/hour
