Senior Archivist

The Senior Archivist is responsible for overseeing the accessioning, arrangement, description and preservation of the Museum's archival materials including paper, images, media and electronic records to ensure that they are preserved. The Senior Archivist is responsible for creating policies, procedures, and workflows for the Museum and working across divisions to identify and transfer historically relevant records for permanent retention. They are also responsible for monitoring all archives spaces as well as inventorying the archival holdings at pre-determined intervals. The Senior Archivist writes grants to support various projects including web and digitization projects; and serves as a resource for internal staff and external researchers seeking to use the Museum's archival materials. They are also responsible for supervising a small staff and departmental budget.


  • Supervises one staff member and 1-3 temporary staff, including interns and volunteers.
  • Manage grants and a departmental budget.
  • Manages 3500 linear feet of collections including documents, audiovisual media, artwork, published works, and other materials; plus approximately 25 TB of digital assets in multiple locations across the Museum's buildings at Science Park.
  • On a daily basis multiple sets of stairs will need to be climbed to access records.


This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday.


Director, Exhibit Content & Project Management


  • Master's degree.
  • 5 or more years of archives management and preservation including digital preservation experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of archival best practices and standards.
  • Thorough understanding of archival processing and cataloguing standards including appropriate metadata schemas.
  • Knowledge of digitization best practices and standards.
  • Proven grant writing ability.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Budget management skills.
  • Ability to manage staff, interns, and volunteers and work collaboratively with others in the Museum.


Exempt (Salaried). $67,000-72,000/year
